What got you into Flight Sims? For me it was my love of airplanes and the military. How about all of you? Was it someone in your life took you flying as a kid or was a relitive a pilot? So lets hear why you are into flight sims.

Re: What got you into Flight Sims?
Mon, January 19, 2004 - 8:00 AMFunny enough, I've never asked myself that question.
Looking back I think it started with us kids in first grade building plastic models and pretending we were combat pilots.
Then add the commodore 64 a few years later and the "incredible" wireframe vector graphics in F19 Stealth Fighter. Hooked! :-) -

Mon, January 26, 2004 - 2:24 AMI've always like airplanes and flying, so when my dad got Chuck Yeager's Flight Trainer for our first PC when I was 6, I was hooked immediately. Then along came F-19 (oh yes, a true classic!), a 386 (with VGA color graphics no less!), LucasFilm's Their Finest Hour, and that was it: I was a flightsimmer for life.

Re: What got you into Flight Sims?
Fri, January 30, 2004 - 2:47 PMHi all
For me, it was the realization that I would never, ever be a military pilot due to my myopic vision (sniff). Then I got my hands on my very first flight sim - F-29 Retaliator. Oh, if I could tell you the hours - HOURS! - I spent cutting my teeth on that sim. But after trolling the bargain bins at the software store, I quickly realized I needed high fidelity stuff. Falcon 3.0, while fun and enjoyable, never held my attention but DiD's Tornado gave me a big picture appreciation. Su-27 Flanker 1.0, on the other hand, changed my life. That's a section that deserves its own chapter, but I'll just say that eventually this led me into civilian sims. Fly! was my joy (when it behaved). All this was the foundation I took into real flight training, and probably the reason it went as well as it did. Who's to say?
But it all started with F-29....
